Essex has perhaps the most rapidly rising population of any
in England. Almost a quarter of its area is covered with houses.
This does not mean however that there is not beautiful sprawling
countryside, even today you can see much of the countryside
that made it popular with artists such as Gainsborough and
Constable.
The county boasts the two longest piers in Britain, the famous
Southend Pier but the equally impressive Walton pier. Beautiful
and traditional seaside resorts hug Essex's coastline. In
land you will find beautiful towns and villages large and
small. Don't miss Saffron Walden to the West of the county
and nearby Audley End house. To the north the large town of
Colchester with it's impressive castle and many more inbetween.
Make sure you check our A-Z of towns and villages in Essex
guide for places of interest. In the visitor guide you will
find Museums and other places of interest for days out. This
will grow over the coming weeks and months.
Our comprehensive What's On Guide incroporates events happening
throughout the county and if you are organising an event please
feel free to submit it for free inclusion. Submit
