The South Lowestoft
branch of the Salvation Army has again asked us to help them with
their fundraising programme. This year the concert will be called
‘SUMMER SONG’ and
will again be at St Peter and St John Church, Kirkley
and will be on Saturday 18 July 2009 at …pm.
This year’s event will be to support the South Lowestoft
Salvation Army Youth and Children’s Ministry.
The South Lowestoft Branch of the Salvation Army has run appeals
for many years, and Pakefield Singers has been part of a concert
held at St Peter & St John Church, Kirkley every year since
2004. This year’s concert is to support the Youth and Children’s
Ministry. This year the Ministry is raising funds for young people
to be able to attend for e week at the Anglia School of Music
& Drama at Bury St Edmunds in August, an event that has been
operating for a number of years. In this week each student is
given a choice of concentrating on either Music (both oral &
instrumental), Dance or Drama. Other workshops are held covering
crafts, bible study, leadership, as well as plenty of sports activities.
The cost of the week is £200 plus transport per student.
When these young people have been able to attend such a week,
they always come back really inspired to share their new found
skills with their friends. As the area covered in the week is
so wide, many of the students make lasting relationships with
other like minded youngsters. This also helps in their perspective
of their Christian beliefs as they meet with so many others who
hold the same spiritual outlook. Young people within the South
Lowestoft Branch of the Salvation Army are also involved in fundraising
events in order to be able send others this August.
Tickets are £6 with £5 concessions. These will be
available from Pakefield Cards and Crafts, Morlings, Oasis Christian
Bookshop and J Durrant (Tel 01502-574761).
After this concert, we will be taking a short break
from performances to further extend our repertoire. Watch for
more news later about our new season in September. |
