LATEST NEWS

Hallelujah! A World of Sacred Song at St Peter & St John, Kirkley on 7 June on behalf of the South Lowestoft Salvation Army. What a concert! Pakefield Singers go from strength to strength. As has become a Pakefield Singers tradition, there are often guest performers, and this time we were delighted to be at the first performance of the North Suffolk Youth Choir. They did us proud, and after only meeting together 3 times in the last four months!! May they go on to greater things and we look forward to hearing more about them in the future.

As we usually do now, there are some photographs of the concert. You will need to go to the ‘Pictures’ Page to see the latest gallery of photos.

See the ‘Future Events’ Page for details of our Cabaret-style evening on Saturday 13 September 2008.

FUNDING
The Society is self-funding and receives no sponsorship income. It does, however, continue to have significant regular costs in the form of rehearsal costs over 46 weeks of the year, whereas most choral societies only rehearse for 30 weeks or less a year for the same membership fees. There is also the cost of buying sheet music. As we are a choir with a continuously growing repertoire, rather than a choral society doing single performances of single works, we therefore cannot hire our sheet music, but have to have enough copies of each item of our repertoire for each member. This means that we have to buy our music, an additional cost compared to most choirs / choral societies. It is not a case of buying one and giving the members photocopies, as photocopying music is strictly illegal. We have however, been very fortunate in obtaining a number of grants which have been essential for the Society's development.
Suffolk County Council Locality Budgets, Awards for All, Shell Exploration and Production, and Anglia Regional Cooperative Society have supported us. The Society gratefully acknowledges all the very generous financial help that it has received. However, there are continuing financial demands as we further develop our technique and repertoire. A recent example was our 2007 tour to Aarhus in Denmark at the invitation of the Danish choir Kor-I-Nord. This was only possible due to the fundraising efforts of many people, both by the members of the Pakefield Singers and many of those outside.
If you wish to sponsor the Society or know of anyone who might wish to sponsor us, please leave a message for the Society on the Contact page».

PERFORMANCE RISERS & TRAILER
We had our tiered performance risers specially constructed in order that we can perform in a variety of curved or straight formations. The whole outfit is assembled from many light components, allowing the whole assembly to be easily put together and taken apart for each concert.

Suffolk County Council Locality Budgets largely supported their purchase in 2005.

This is how the risers were set up for our concert at St Peter & St John Church, Kirkley in June 2008.

In order to store and transport the risers, we also had this trailer specially built. The trailer is then able to be towed to and from our performance venues with a medium-sized car.

Again we were able to secure funding from Suffolk County Council Locality Budgets, which largely financed its purchase.

So you need to look out for us, as we get ready for our concerts.
