Situated
on the Deben Estuary. Once an important shipbuilding town Woodbridge
centre retains it's old worlde charm. The white weather-boarded
Tide Mill, now fully restored and in working order, sits majestically
on the quayside.
Close by is the National Trust owned Sutton Hoo rumoured to
be the resting place of Anglo Saxon King Redwauld.
In 1980 the area was in the news when there was apparently a
UFO sighting by members of the military at nearby Rendlesham
Forest. |

Connections
Thomas Seckford the Court Lawyer of Queen Elizabeth
I was granted the manor of Woodbridge and played a part in developing
the town. He established a hospital, a dispensary, and moved
the local court from its ancient home in nearby Melton to the
new Shire Hall in Woodbridge.
Edward Fitzgerald 1809-83 poet and translator was born
at Bredfield near Woodbridge. Translated The Rubaiyat of
Omar Khayyam. He is buried at St. Michael's Church, Boulge,
Suffolk. More can be found about him at the local Woodbridge
Museum.

Brian
Eno rock musician was born
in Woodbridge, May 15th, 1948. Best known for his involvement
and work with Roxy Music. He has also worked with Robert Fripp,
Robert Wyatt, U2, David Bowie and Talking Heads.
Nick Lowe, singer and songwriter was born here
on 25th March, 1949. He formed his first group, Brinsley Schwarz,
while still at school in the town. Biggest solo success was
"I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass". Went on to work
with the likes of Elvis Costello and Dave Edmunds.
