Police are urging all those attending Latitude this year to take crime reduction measures in a bid to ensure the 2012 festival is a safe and enjoyable one.

A sheet giving crime reduction tips (please see attached) is being circulated in advance of the event being held at Henham Park between Thursday 12 and Monday 16 July and police are urging festival goers to take precautions to ensure you don’t become a victim of crime.

The number of people attending means Latitude is the size of a small town and although it is generally a relaxed, good natured and family-friendly place to be, unfortunately there are some who take advantage of this.

The sheet includes information on personal safety and how you can reduces your chance of being targeted by thieves as well as steps you can take to make sure crime doesn’t ruin your festival experience.

For your personal safety police advise that you stay with your friends – if you’re with people you know and trust the chances are you’ll look out for each other. Festivals give you the opportunity to meet new friends but going off with people who you’ve just met may lead you into situations you don’t want to be in.

You’re also advised to moderate your alcohol consumption as if you overdo it you’ll be less aware and less likely to spot dangers.

Visitors are also urged to only take what need to the festival and to keep a close eye on valuables.
