Families can get their summer holidays off to a magical start thanks to the one-day children’s festival, Magical Marshes.

Taking place on Sunday, July 24 from 11am to 5pm at Snape Maltings, Magical Marshes will give families the opportunity to try all sorts of new activities that will keep youngsters entertained throughout the summer and spark a long-term love for the arts and the great outdoors. Entrance is £1 per person, babies free, with all activities included.

“This is the perfect opportunity for families to try new creative activities and get to discover more of the beautiful landscape on offer in the district,” said Cllr Geoff Holdcroft, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Economic Development.

Activities taking place include musical surprises in the marshes as you are led by ‘pied piper’ Clare Bloor, followed by musical instrument making, musical doodling and even the chance for mini maestros to conduct members of the City of London Sinfonia. Orchestra members will also give an informal family concert with lots of opportunities to join in. Other musical activity includes junk funk, a dancing tea lady and a one man band. There will also be 10 all day workshops, which include making clay trolls, fairies, jewellery, willow creatures and a ‘cardboard kingdom’.

For those that still need to burn off some energy there are dance workshops, mini Olympics, story walks through the marshes, circus skills, giant games, crazy bikes and a very different type of Morris dancing.

“Magical Marshes is a festival especially designed for ages 10 and under giving them a jam-packed day of craft, sport, music and creativity,” added Cllr Holdcroft.

As well as giving families inspiration for things to do during the school holidays it will also be an opportunity to find out more about wildlife and the stunning landscape that the district boasts.

“It is excellent value for money at only £1 per person as all the activities and performances throughout the day are free of charge. Car parking is also free and several food outlets will be available to buy refreshments,” added Cllr Holdcroft.

Food on the day will include a hog roast from local producers Dingley Dell Pork, who are also planning some surprise cooking activities for a lucky few.

The day will come to a finale with Zenith, with their fantastic pirate show of tightrope walking, juggling and fire tricks.
